One of the leading multidisciplinary consultancies in NZ is excited to be recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join their brownfield land development team here in Auckland.

Reporting to the Design Principal and the the Land Development Lead you will be working in a team that plans new neighbourhoods in established Auckland suburbs, conducts civil design, oversees construction monitoring, site visits and consenting related to earthworks, infrastructure, roading, parks and utilities. 

You will provide the technical review and oversight of design packages and provide quality assurance.

Responsibilities

Define and Understand Project Scope:
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager and the Design Principle to understand project requirements.
  • Ensure project outcomes meet client expectations without over- or under-engineering solutions.
  • Assist in preparing and tracking design fees and programme hours.
Develop the Plan to Deliver Design:
  • Determine technical resources and collaborate with the Construction team for cost-effective, safe designs.
  • Liaise with technical specialists and plan for project risks.
  • Support the Design Manager and Programme Manager in setting realistic programmes, budgets, and managing change variations.
Executing the Project Plan:
  • Deliver the scope of works on time, within budget, and to standard.
  • Track progress and manage design team resources.
  • Coordinate design deliverables and ensure compliance with consent and engineering approval conditions.
  • Assist the Construction team with design-related issues during site works.
Measuring and Reporting:
  • Provide input on reporting costs, programme, and quality assurance.
  • Report potential scope, budget, or programme variations and manage change evaluations.
Stakeholder and Relationship Management:
  • Coordinate with internal specialists and liaise with asset owners and the Construction team.
  • Incorporate design requirements for streamlined delivery and compliance.
Quality Control and Assurance:
  • Implement and manage quality assurance systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct quality inspections during construction and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Compile lessons learnt workshops and seek continuous improvement opportunities.
Organisational:
  • Adhere to the principles of the Design Management Plan and promote the alliance culture.
  • Ensure personal and team safety and protect commercial interests.
  • Support effective communication and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor, coach, and train team members.
Requirements:
  • 7 + years of urban development or infrastructure design management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Surveying, or equivalent with a pathway to CPEng or RPSurv.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to conceptualize new initiatives.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization software such as AutoCAD and 12D.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering design within a brownfield context.
