A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for a leading high end property developer as a Preconstruction & Design Manager based in Auckland.

This privately owned NZ company pride themselves on delivering high quality developments across high-end residential, commercial, and industrial.

You will be working closely with Directors and external stakeholders overseeing the design, consent, procurement, and planning for developments across Auckland. You will work closely with the main contractors and consultants to set up the programme and manage the construction process seeing the design become reality. 

The role reports to the Head of Preconstruction & Design who will provide guidance while working closely with the Directors of the business. The role will eventually see this person take on the Head role for the business.

Other responsibilities will include:
  • Working closely with external stakeholders to develop a comprehensive project plan.
  • Employ technical expertise in the design process of new development projects.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of design processes through all stages of design.
  • Managing and coordinating the design review for submissions from the contractor.
  • Assess potential risks associated with the project and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Working closely with external teams on complex issues, and progress on projects.
  • Ensuring design specifications are being met during the construction process.
  • Assist the Directors where required and provide detailed reports.
  • Work with internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers, Councils, and regulatory authorities to ensure all projects meet all outcomes.
  • Managing budgets and providing value engineering to improve the overall value of the project/s.
To be considered for the role the ideal candidate will come from a design or preconstruction management background ideally working for a developer or main contractor.

Other Requirements:
  • Experience across project initiation and predesign, concept, preliminary and developed design stages, detailed design, and documentation.
  • Experience managing projects from detailed design and planning through to completion.
  • Previous experience in high end design, ideally in complex coordination design projects and structural build service.
  • Preferred background of residential apartments, commercial and/or industrial.
  • Essential soft skills – transparent and open, collaborative and works well as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage the demands of designers, engineers, and contractors on site.
