Job description

A leading property development company that specialise in large scale residential developments in New Zealand are looking to hire an experienced Estimating/QS Manager to help grow and lead the quantity surveying team across existing and future developments in Auckland and Wellington.

The business consists of an experienced in-house development, cost and delivery team which allows them to control the cost, risk, time and quality of its developments through long standing and loyal relationships with suppliers.

Reporting to the General Manager, this is a significant hire as the role will require the individual to drive the delivery of projects from a cost and commercial management perspective as well as hire, manage and mentor a team.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise on cost throughout the full lifecycle from feasibility and concept design through to procurement and construction. 
  • Provide cost planning, tender reviews and cost reporting on construction projects.
  • Contract administration.
  • Subcontractor negotiations.
  • Progress Claims.
  • Tender evaluations, pricing/measurement.
  • Liaising with designers, and contractors to ensure projects cost is being managed and within budget.
  • Mitigating any risk through sound processes and value engineering.
  • Assess and vet sub-contractor and supplier quotations.
  • Source new trade partnerships, both supplier and sub-contractor.
  • Build key relationships with local authorities, consultants, contractors as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Help grow and manage the team and be involved in the recruitment of new staff.  
To be considered for this fantastic opportunity the ideal candidate will have previous experience as a Senior Estimator or Estimating Manager from a construction background.

You will also have:
  • A relevant qualification majoring preferably in quantity surveying/construction economics and/or construction.
  • Experience in commercial and/or residential apartment projects would desirable.
  • An understanding of construction estimating and finance.
  • Capability to successfully lead and manage direct reports.
  • Contacts with commercial subcontractors is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Complete comfort interfacing and managing all stakeholders including, contractors and consultancy partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to produce high quality reports.
