Quantity Surveyor

Job description

The Company
Ascent Group has officially launched into the market as a boutique project management and quantity surveying consultancy operating across the Southern Lakes and wider New Zealand.

The business has been founded by three highly respected, well-connected construction professionals, each with strong backgrounds across development, project management, and cost management. These are established industry names with long-standing relationships across the region, relationships that directly translate into repeat clients and ongoing work.

Importantly, Ascent is not starting from zero. The business launches with real momentum and a confirmed pipeline of secured work already in place, with development, residential, and tourism/hospitality projects. From day one, there is genuine workload, active clients, and clear demand for their services.
Ascent partners with developers, builders, and funders on complex construction and development projects, delivering a hands-on, end-to-end service from feasibility through to completion. The approach is simple: stay close to the detail, the decisions, and the people!

Based out of a brand-new Wānaka office, with flexibility to also work from Queenstown, the business is set up for intentional growth while maintaining a tight-knit, high-quality delivery model.

The Role
As Ascent Group continues to launch and grow, they are now looking to bring a Quantity Surveyor into the team to work closely with a Senior QS.

This role will suit an experienced QS, but also someone who is motivated to develop and grow within a boutique, high-accountability environment. Whether your background is from a main contractor or PQS consultancy, you’ll be someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and being close to the detail of projects.

You’ll be exposed to the full project lifecycle across a diverse range of developments, while also playing a key role in shaping systems, processes, and how the business evolves as it scales.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Cost planning, feasibility and early-stage estimating
  • Take-offs, elemental estimating and detailed pricing
  • Tender analysis and reporting
  • Project financial reporting and forecasting (including funder’s QS reporting)
  • Review and Certification of Contractor Payment Claims, Variations Claims and Final Accounts.
  • Assisting Contractor’s and Subcontractors with review of subcontract agreements, preparing tenders, progress claims, variation claims and final accounts
  • Candidates strong on the contractor/subcontractor aspects (tendering, claims, take-offs) or the consultancy aspects (claim assessments, reporting) will both be well considered
This is a genuine opportunity to join a business at launch, not years down the track, where your ideas will be heard and your input will genuinely shape how things are done. You’ll have direct access to senior leadership, clear and meaningful career progression, and a future shareholding opportunity for someone who proves themselves and wants to grow with the business.

This is an ideal role for a QS who wants more than just another job - someone excited by building something, being close to decision-making, and delivering high-quality outcomes in one of New Zealand’s most desirable regions.

Apply now and we will be in touch, otherwise if you are keen to chat about this role and the wider market get in touch with Sam Calvert 027 274 5586 or sam@assemblerecruit.com
