A long-established, highly respected specialist geotechnical consultancy is seeking an Engineering Geologist to join their team on a significant programme of work in the Waikato region.
Operating for nearly 40 years and delivering thousands of projects across New Zealand and internationally, this consultancy is recognised for its expertise in geotechnical, earthquake and dam engineering.

The Opportunity
The successful candidate will be based in Waihi, Monday to Friday, working on technically challenging mining and ground investigation projects.

- Fully paid accommodation
- A $75 per day allowance (per diem)
- Structured technical mentorship
- A clear pathway to transition into a full-time Auckland office role after approximately 12–18 months

Responsibilities
You will work across a technically diverse project portfolio including mining, dams and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include:
- Organising and supervising ground investigations (drilling, CPT, test pits and specialist methods)
- Detailed soil and rock logging
- Installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation
- Geological mapping and interpretation
- Assisting with slope stability assessments
- Technical reporting and client liaison
- Supporting senior staff on large-scale infrastructure and mining projects
Requirements
- BSc (Geology / Engineering Geology) or BE (Civil)
- Relevant NZ experience(Open to exceptional and immediately available graduates)
- Strong ground investigation and logging capability
- Comfortable being site-based during the initial 12–18 month period
- Working toward (or interested in pursuing) professional accreditation
- Clean NZ driver’s licence
- Rare exposure to nationally significant mining and underground projects
- Structured pathway from field-based project work into an Auckland consulting role
