Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Job description

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established, multidisciplinary consultancy known for delivering practical, design-led solutions across land development, infrastructure, and environmental sectors.

This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of projects, lead investigations and design, and play a key part in mentoring junior staff, all within a collaborative and down-to-earth team environment.

The Role
  • Lead and deliver geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design across a diverse project portfolio
  • Prepare and review reports, design documentation, and recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, and slope stability
  • Provide geotechnical input across feasibility, concept, and detailed design stages
  • Oversee site investigations, construction monitoring, and quality assurance activities
  • Work closely with clients, project managers, and engineers across disciplines to ensure integrated design outcomes
  • Support and mentor junior engineers, contributing to team capability and technical excellence
About You
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
  • 7+ years’ experience in geotechnical design and investigation (consultancy experience preferred)
  • Strong capability in foundation design, settlement analysis, slope stability, and ground improvement
  • Proficient in tools such as GeoStudio, SLOPE, Settle3D, or PLAXIS
  • Excellent communication and client liaison skills
  • CPEng (or working towards) with Engineering New Zealand
