Job description

We’re working with a leading national consultancy that takes a practical and solutions-focused approach to health and safety. This health and safety consultancy operates as an independent advisory service to varied public and private sector clients nationwide. Unlike traditional “tick box” consultants, they go beyond compliance, helping organisations at every level to embed meaningful, sustainable health and safety practices.
Working across a variety of industries from construction, healthcare, education, Iwi organisations, government and more, their focus is on governance and advisory support at the highest level, while still rolling up their sleeves to help build systems and processes when needed.

About the role
This is a unique opportunity for a Health and Safety professional to join a small, specialised consultancy team making a real impact. You’ll work directly with boards, executives and project teams to deliver advice that builds understanding, influences change and secures buy-in.
Your day-to-day could range from presenting to a board, running client workshops and developing policies, to investigating incidents or helping untangle overlapping duties across multiple organisations. You’ll also play a role in business development, building relationships, collaborating with industry partners and contributing to the continued growth of this advisory service.

What you will bring
We’re looking for someone who can balance technical expertise with strong communication and influence. To succeed in this role, you’ll ideally have:
  • Proven experience as a Health and Safety practitioner in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Experience undertaking incident investigations, risk assessments, training and reviewing safety plans
  • Ability to identify and implement improvements to health, safety and wellbeing processes and systems
  • Strong ability to write policy and process documents and strategies
  • Strong understanding of HSWA and overlapping PCBU duties, with the ability to analyse complex situations and explain them clearly to diverse audiences
  • Strong ability to present, engage and challenge at board and executive level
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, you build trust and secure buy-in rather than relying on “tick box” compliance
  • Experience across sectors such as construction, healthcare, education or government (varied backgrounds welcomed)
  • Agile, adaptable approach, with confidence in delivering workshops, webinars and presentations
Why join?
You’ll be part of a growing, forward-thinking team where your voice matters and your impact is visible. This is not about clipboards and checklists, it’s about creating value, influencing change and helping organisations see health and safety as an enabler, not a hurdle.
