Job description

Assemble Recruitment is excited to be partnering with Calder Stewart to identify an Energy Manager to be based in Christchurch.

Calder Stewart is a proudly New Zealand-owned, family-founded business with over 65 years of experience delivering end-to-end solutions across construction, property development, and energy. From pioneering solar energy solutions to developing major industrial precincts, Calder Stewart continues to lead with innovation, reliability, and scale to develop and build the spaces that shape New Zealand’s future.

Together we are seeking a forward-thinking and commercially minded Energy Manager to spearhead the management and rollout of solar and wind energy systems across a diverse national property portfolio, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across new builds and existing sites.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy within the built environment, working closely with internal stakeholders and clients to identify, deliver and manage energy projects from concept to completion.

Acting as the subject matter expert in all areas of energy, you will blend your technical expertise with financial acumen - leading not just delivery, but also the funding and scalability of renewable energy projects through innovative capital structures and investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and deliver the rollout of energy projects across the wider property business.
  • Lead from site identification, through to consenting and delivery and installation of solar and wind systems across a growing asset base.
  • Proactively engage and foster early collaboration with the Development and Delivery teams to attract customers to the integrated solar offering.
  • Conduct detailed energy assessments and provide tailored solutions to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
  • Manage key relationships with tenants, landlords, energy providers, and installation partners.
  • Structure and manage Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and other commercial contracts, to ensure return on investment.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to secure funding for new energy developments, working alongside legal, property and investment functions.
  • Lead internal teams on budgeting, compliance, and contractor management.
  • Track and report on pipeline opportunities and the performance of existing installations.
  • Contribute to broader sustainability initiatives and explore additional renewable technologies.
What You'll Bring:
  • Experience in solar and wind project delivery either within NZ or internationally.
  • Technical knowledge of solar and wind energy systems and installation processes.
  • Experience with investment modelling, funds management, or capital raising highly advantageous.
  • Strong modelling skills to drive decision-making and performance reporting.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset and a passion for sustainable, long-term outcomes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and incentives in the NZ renewable energy market.
Why Apply?
This is your chance to help scale a rapidly growing energy function that sits at the intersection of property, sustainability and innovation. You'll join a values-driven business that is committed to a low-carbon future and delivering commercial outcomes with real impact.
