Site Manager

Job description

A growing specialist commercial and industrial construction business is looking for an experienced Site Manager to join its Southland team.

The business delivers end-to-end construction solutions across the commercial and industrial sectors, bringing together design, engineering, project management and construction. Its project portfolio includes warehouses, workshops, manufacturing facilities, agricultural buildings, transport facilities, showrooms and other specialist commercial projects.

With a strong focus on practical delivery and long-term client relationships, the business provides its people with genuine ownership across their projects. It is a down-to-earth environment where experienced construction professionals are trusted to make decisions, solve problems and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

The business is now looking for an experienced Site Manager to play a key role in delivering projects across the Southland region. The office is based in Gore, with flexibility for the successful person to be based elsewhere across Southland.

About the Role
As Site Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day delivery of commercial construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to a high standard of quality.

You will work closely with Project Managers, QSs, clients, subcontractors and wider project teams, taking responsibility for your sites from establishment through to completion.

This is a hands-on role with genuine ownership and influence, suited to someone who enjoys being close to the construction process, solving problems and seeing projects through from start to finish.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Take ownership of day-to-day site operations, programme and resource planning.
  • Lead subcontractors and site teams, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Manage site health, safety and quality, including inductions, toolbox meetings, pre-starts and risk management.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues early and work with the Project Manager and QS to keep projects on programme and budget.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and project teams, leading site meetings and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and systems, while providing practical input to the wider design and delivery team where required.
About You
You will be an experienced Site Manager who is confident taking ownership, leading from the front and making things happen on site.
We’re looking for someone with:
  • Proven Site Management experience within commercial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methodology and site delivery.
  • Excellent planning, organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to lead subcontractors, coordinate resources and hold people accountable.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with a strong commitment to health, safety, quality and delivering projects to programme and budget.
  • Confidence working independently while collaborating closely with Project Managers, QSs, clients and wider project teams.
  • Experience with construction management software and MS Word/Excel would be advantageous.
The Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing construction business with a strong pipeline of commercial and industrial projects across the region.

For the right person, this is more than simply managing a site. You’ll have genuine ownership of projects, the opportunity to work alongside experienced design and delivery professionals, and the chance to play an important role in the continued growth of the business.
