Job description
This role sits within a well‑established, multi‑disciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong track record delivering civil and infrastructure projects across New Zealand.
The business is known for high technical standards, practical design thinking and long‑term client relationships.
It offers a collaborative, down‑to‑earth working environment where experienced engineers are trusted to do their work well and have genuine influence over how projects, teams and careers develop.
About the role
An experienced Senior Civil Engineer is required to join the Auckland team in a hands‑on, autonomous position.
You’ll manage your own projects, work directly with clients and councils, and be involved from early concept through to construction and completion.
The role offers variety across land development, three waters, earthworks, flood and drainage assessments, civil infrastructure and construction monitoring.
While there is no immediate expectation to generate new business, the role naturally allows you to build long‑term client relationships, with a clear pathway into future team leadership or senior management if that is something you want to pursue.
Benefits/why apply
• A senior role with genuine autonomy and trust
• Flexible working arrangements, including a 9‑day fortnight and work‑from‑home options
• Competitive salary aligned to experience and registration
• Ongoing professional development support and clear long‑term career pathways
• A supportive, technically strong environment without the layers of a large corporate structure
Responsibilities of the successful candidate
• Managing civil projects from feasibility and design through to delivery and construction observation
• Undertaking civil design for land development and infrastructure projects, including reports, calculations and drawings
• Coordinating with clients, councils, contractors and internal disciplines to ensure successful outcomes
• Providing technical input, reviewing deliverables and maintaining high quality standards
• Undertaking site inspections and supporting construction phase issue resolution
• Contributing positively to team culture and the ongoing development of the civil function
Requirements of the successful candidate
• A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering
• Strong New Zealand civil consulting experience with the ability to work independently
• Chartered status (CPEng) preferred but not essential
• Sound technical capability across civil design, reporting and project delivery
• Confidence communicating with clients, councils and contractors
• A practical, solutions‑focused mindset and strong organisational skills
If you’re a senior civil engineer looking for flexibility, interesting work and a role where you can make a real impact, apply with your CV or get in touch with Hugh Miller today on 02730506777 or hugh@assemblerecruit.com for a confidential discussion.
